Darien is a small town on Connecticut’s Gold Coast with an amazing downtown. Downtown Darien has been reimagined by the Corbin District project, making it more walkable and adding a central community center for town gatherings. The project has attracted some of the country’s finest retailers, restaurant tours, and service companies.
This coastal town has two public beaches along with multiple parks and three private country clubs. Darien also boasts one of the best-ranked school districts in the United States. Darien is ideal for commuters, with NYC just one hour away via two railway stations or driving.
Homes in Darien offer both neighborhood living and options for more land and privacy. Properties include gorgeous single-family homes in peaceful neighborhoods and spectacular country retreats.
Darien’s many prominent residents include television news anchors, superstar actors, venture capitalists, and C-level executives. The town has a population of around 20,000, and about a third of Darien’s residents commute into NYC for work. The town’s outstanding schools have made it a popular choice for young families, and Darien has the youngest average age of any non-college town in Connecticut. Many of those who live in the town belong to local organizations such as Darien’s prestigious country clubs, the Tokeneke Beach Club, and Norton Yacht Club.
Launched in 2019, the Corbin District project has transformed Darien’s seven-acre downtown district with the addition of high-end boutiques, first-class dining destinations, luxury residential units, and beautifully designed public spaces for farmers markets, outdoor concerts, and other community events. The Country Club of Darien’s exceptional amenities includes eight Har-Tru tennis courts and four platform tennis courts for winter play. The club’s award-winning 18-hole golf course was originally designed by Devereux Emmet partner Alfred Tull and then modernized in 2007 by Dr. Michael Hudzan. The clubhouse features two upscale dining spaces, a fitness center, and a swimming facility, including a six-lane adult pool and a gated baby pool. Woodway Country Club has an 18-hole championship course designed by Willie Park Jr., plus refined dining areas and a pool and tennis complex with ten Har-Tru clay courts.
